Jurmu Named Assistant Coach for Tech Women’s Basketball

HOUGHTON, Mich. - Michigan Tech Head Coach Sam Hoyt is pleased to announce that Elisa Jurmu has been named assistant coach for the women's basketball program. Jurmu was an interim assistant coach this past season and was a four-year member of the team as a player.

"I'm incredibly grateful to be named the assistant women's basketball coach at Michigan Tech," Jurmu said. "To begin my coaching career for the team I grew up watching and my alma mater, it is a dream come true. I love everything about Michigan Tech, this basketball program, and this community. I'm so excited for this opportunity and to work alongside and learn from Coach Hoyt."

As an interim assistant coach in 2018-19, Jurmu helped lead the Huskies to a 21-9 overall record and a 16-4 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Huskies claimed their 16th GLIAC North Division/Conference title this year and were the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament.

"I'm excited to officially hire Elisa as our assistant coach," Hoyt said. "She has a passion and pride for this university and community that is unmatched. I'm eager to see how her work ethic and high character will impact our program in a positive way moving forward."

Prior to joining the coaching staff in 2018-19, Jurmu spent four seasons with the Huskies as a student-athlete where she appeared in 57 games. She helped guide Tech to a 90-25 record during that span, which included three GLIAC North Division Championships and two appearances in the NCAA Division II National Tournament.

The Huskies are currently getting ready for what should be another exciting 2019-20 season.
