Huskies fall short to Pride 6-1

HOUGHTON, Mich. - Senior Siddhesh Mahadeshwar earned a singles win in his final match at Gates Tennis Center but Michigan Tech men's tennis fell 6-1 to Purdue Northwest Sunday in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. The Pride took a 1-0 lead with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, then handled the Huskies at the top of the singles lineup to drop Tech to 1-9 overall, 1-5 in conference play.

MTU plays at Lake Superior State to close the regular season on April 23.

"We just didn't have our best today," said head coach Kristin Yep. "Back-to-back is always a challenge and we spent a lot of mental and physical energy to get a victory yesterday, so unfortunately, today was a bit of a let down by comparison."

At No. 6 singles, Mahadeshwar defeated Paul Hawes in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. Adam Fenjiro fell at No. 1 to Flores Cepeda 6-0, 6-4 and Vitor Jordao came up short at No. 2 against Luca Kirchhoff 6-3, 6-0.

Nikolai Prosjanykov played a tight first set but succumbed to Levent Evyapan at No. 3 singles 7-6 (3), 6-1. Eli Pinnoo and Andrew Freel also lost at No. 4 and No. 5 respectively in straight sets.
