Tech Tennis Teams Receive ITA Academic Recognition

Michigan Tech men’s and women’s tennis programs were recognized as 2021 ITA All-Academic Teams by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Several players also earned ITA Scholar-Athlete accolades.
Huskies fall 6-1 on Senior Day

Michigan Tech men's tennis concluded its 2020-21 spring season Monday with a 6-1 loss to Lake Superior State in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference competition at Gates Tennis Center. The Lakers won a pair of tight tiebreakers in doubles, then took five singles matches to put away the Huskies, who ended the year with a record of 0-12. Eli Pinnoo was a singles winner for MTU over Xavier Vicent Navarro 3-6, 7-6(4), 15-13. Both players saved multiple match points before Pinnoo finally finished it off. Pinnoo played alongside Siddhesh Mahadeshwar in doubles against his brother Seth Pinnoo, a match which also reached a tiebreaker.
Ferris State Hands Tech 6-1 Loss

The Huskies came up short in men's tennis Saturday afternoon and lost 6-1 to undefeated Ferris State at Gates Tennis Center in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action. The Huskies (0-11, 0-6 GLIAC) remained winless on the season, while the Bulldogs clinched their fifth GLIAC regular season championship in six years in Houghton. Ferris State (13-0, 8-0 GLIAC) surrendered just three total games to sweep doubles, then earned wins singles positions 1-5. Nico Caviglia provided a bright spot for Michigan Tech with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles over Andrew Swirzek. Ricardo Nunez fell 6-1, 6-1 to Yannic Mader at No. 1 singles.
Huskies Upended by Lakers 7-0

Siddhesh Mahadeshwar and Pinnoo put together a strong doubles performance but in the end, Michigan Tech men's tennis lost 7-0 to Grand Valley State at Gates Tennis Center in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday. It was the 10th straight loss for the Huskies, who remain winless with two regular season matches left on the schedule. The Lakers took the team doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3, then swept singles, despite an admirable effort by Ricardo Nunez at No. 1, who lost 6-3, 6-3 to Martin Matov. Eli Pinnoo pushed Sean Miller to three sets at No. 2 but lost 6-3, 0-6, 3-6. The Huskies failed to pick up more than two games in a set in the other four singles positions.
Huskies Outplayed by Warriors 7-0

Recent road struggles continued for Michigan Tech men's tennis Sunday as the Huskies lost 7-0 to Wayne State at Greater Midland Tennis Center in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match. Ambarish Rao and Ricardo Nunez were winners at No. 2 doubles, but the Huskies came up short in singles to drop to 0-9 (0-4 GLIAC). The Warriors improved to 4-6 (3-2 GLIAC) with the victory.
Huskies drop 6-1 decision to Northwood

Michigan Tech men's tennis suffered their eighth straight defeat 6-1 to Northwood Saturday at Greater Midland Tennis Center. The Timberwolves took the team doubles points with straight forward wins at No. 1 and No. 2, then notched victories over the Huskies in singles 1-5. Nico Caviglia earned the lone Tech point with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles over Northwood's Chad Barton. Michigan Tech fell to 0-8 (0-4 GLIAC while the Timberwolves improved to 3-11 (2-3 GLIAC).
Husky men's tennis comes up short against Pride

Ambarish Rao picked up a straight sets win at No. 5 singles but the Huskies fell short at Purdue Northwest 6-1 Saturday afternoon at Park Forest Tennis Club. The Pride took the team doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Purdue Northwest won in straight sets at all three top singles positions to clinch the match. Siddhesh Mahadeshwar sent the second set at No. 4 to a tiebreaker, but he fell 6-3, 7-6(3). Rao then defeated Paul Hawes 6-3, 6-4.
Huskies blanked by Davenport 7-0

Michigan Tech men's tennis suffered its sixth straight defeat Friday in a 7-0 road loss to Davenport at MVP Sportplex. The Huskies played with just five men and won one doubles match before the Panthers swept singles. Ambarish Rao and Ricardo Nunez Cuesta teamed up for a 7-6(7) tiebreak victory that was the Huskies only bright spot in the loss.
Oilers too much for Tech men's tennis

No. 1 singles player Nikolai Prosjanykov picked up a 3-set singles victory over Jorge Barnuevo but the Michigan Tech men's tennis team fell 6-1 to Findlay on March 12 at the Findlay YMCA East. The loss dropped the Huskies to 0-4 and 0-4 away from Houghton. The Oiler improved to 2-1 with the win.
Huskies outmatched at Tiffin 7-0

Eli Pinnoo forced a third set at No. 3 singles, but the Huskies failed to grab a point in a 7-0 loss to Tiffin University in men’s tennis Wednesday afternoon at Lakewood Raquet Club. The Dragons took the doubles point in a sweep. The closest match was at No. 1 where Nico Caviglia and Ambarish Rao lost 7-5. Siddhesh Mahadeshwar and Pinnoo fell 6-2 at No. 2 doubles, as did Nacho Carbajosa and Ricardo Nunez at No. 3.
