Huskies Stumble at NCAA Division I UW-Green Bay
GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Michigan Tech men's tennis team suffered a 4-0 non-conference loss at NCAA Division I University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Sunday afternoon. The Phoenix generated the momentum early with a strong performance in doubles and the Huskies weren't able to recover.
Michigan Tech's (0-3) Mario Neto and Siddhesh Mahadeshwar were penciled into the No. 1 doubles spot where they met up with James Ling and Miles McDowall of UW-Green Bay (3-9). The duo of Ling and McDowall were able to prevail 6-2 for the first Phoenix win.
Juan Felipe Chica and Nathan Sodini also fell by an identical score of 6-2 in the No. 3 doubles position to Lachlan Napier and Ivan Radomirovic of Green Bay. Nico Caviglia and Ignacio Carbajosa paired up against Charlie Ridout and Dipin Wadhwa in No. 2 doubles, but once the points went to Green Bay in the No. 1 and No. 3 spots their doubles match went unfinished.Leading 1-0 going into the singles portion of Sunday's battle, the Phoenix collected points in No. 2, No. 4, and No. 6 singles to seal the win. The other three singles matches were not played once the fourth point was accumulated. Caviglia fell to McDowall 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 2 spot while Mahadeshwar suffered a 6-1, 6-0 setback in No. 4 singles. Radomirovic was responsible for the other Phoenix point with a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Sodini in No. 6 singles.
Neto and Ling were slated to play No. 1 singles, Carbajosa and Wadhwa were line up for No. 3 singles, and Felipe Chica and Tony Leto were scheduled for the No. 5 singles match.
The Huskies will be back on the court next Sunday when they play Kutztown in a non-conference match at the Spring Tennis Fest in Hilton Head, S.C. The first serve is slated for 8:30 a.m. eastern time.
