Huskies Fall to 15th Ranked Ferris State Sunday

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech men's tennis team battled one of the top teams in the nation on Sunday at the Gates Tennis Center, falling to No. 15 Ferris State University in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match. The Bulldogs were able to sweep both the doubles and singles portions of the match on their way to the 9-0 win.

In doubles, Ricardo Paes teamed up with Jacob Prochnow in the No. 2 spot for Michigan Tech (1-9, 0-6 GLIAC) to take on Vasil Surduk and Nur Adim R. Iswan of Ferris State (12-2-5, 5-0 GLIAC). Paes and Prochnow turned in the top performance for the Huskies in doubles, but fell 8-2.

Illiya Chibirev had a strong start to his singles match with Nur Adim R. Iswan in the No. 4 spot in the lineup on Sunday. Chibirev stayed on his opponents' heels in set one before falling 6-4. Nur Adim R. Iswan then pulled away quickly in the second set to claim the contest 6-4, 6-1. Mario Neto took on one of the top singles players in the country in Till von Winning at the No. 1 spot, but unfortunately couldn't overtake him, falling 6-2, 6-2.

The Huskies have three more regular season matches which are all on the road. Tech travels to Lake Superior State on Saturday followed by trips to Wayne State and Northwood the following weekend. Saturday's match against the Lakers is scheduled for 10 a.m.
