FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Michigan Tech earned a nonconference sweep of Alaska with a 6-2 victory Friday at the Carlson Center. Nick Nardella had three assists and six different Huskies scored as the Black and Gold improved to 2-1 on the season.

"The third period was our best period, and we were able to take the wind out of their sail after that sixth goal," Tech coach Joe Shawhan said. "I'm proud of the effort, and it always feels good to win. Nardella was outstanding tonight. He competed all game, and I thought we got outstanding goaltending. Blake played huge."

Jake Crespi got the Huskies on the board 16:02 into the game when he one-touched in a cross-crease setup feed from Nick Nardella. Crespi's first of the season and seventh of his career was also assisted by Parker Saretsky who had three points on the night.

Brett Thorne added to the lead only 1:12 into the second period when he finished off a backdoor pass from Nick Nardella and Jake Crespi. It was Thorne's first of the season and the seventh of his career.

Alaska (2-3-1) quickly cut it back to a one-goal game 1:12 later when Matt Koethe scored on a long shot through traffic from Garrett Pyke.

Trevor Russell scored his first collegiate goal at 6:43 of the second to put Tech up 3-1. Ryland Mosley and Chris Lipe worked the puck over to Russell who calmly wristed it in for a two-goal lead.

Logan Pietila scored Tech's second shorthanded goal of the weekend at 8:59 of the second, catching a long stretch pass from Parker Saretsky and firing low glove on the goaltender for his second of the weekend and 23rd of his career.

Parker Saretsky scored Tech's fourth of the period at 13:39 when found some space in the slot and finished off a feed from Nick. Saretsky has two goals on the season and nine for his career.

The Nanooks got one back late in the period with 63 seconds left when Harrison Israels had the puck deflect off his skate and across the goal line on the power play. TJ Lloyed and Brady Risk were given the assists.

Jack Works sniped in his first collegiate goal 7:05 into the third. He stole the puck in the neutral zone and fired it low blocker.

UAF outshot Tech for the second night in a row, 25-19. Blake Pietila made 23 saves for his 37th career win. UAF's Matt Radomsky gave up two goals on six shots and was replaced by Daniel Allin for the final 31:01. Allin recorded 11 saves.

Tech was 4-for-5 on the penalty kill and 0-for-3 on the power play.

The Huskies return home next weekend and open CCHA play against Bemidji State. The puck drops at 7:07 p.m. Friday and 6:07 p.m. Saturday at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena.
