MANKATO, Minn. – Michigan Tech fell 3-1 at No. 2 Minnesota State Saturday at Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center. Justin Misiak scored the lone goal for the Huskies and the Mavericks scored an empty netter with 9.4 seconds left for the two-goal advantage.

"It was a good series," Tech coach Joe Shawhan said. "I'm disappointed in the outcome but not disappointed in the effort. We were much better tonight. It was an even hockey game, and we were good in the third."

The Huskies found themselves down 2-0 early in the second period. MSU was whistled for a penalty and Justin Misiak buried a power-play goal to extend his point streak to three games. It was his first goal of the season and the 21st of his career. Misiak has eight points in the last seven games.

Tech outshot MSU 9-6 in the third period. The Huskies were finally able to pull goaltender Blake Pietila with 1:32 left but only got one shot through to the net by Tristan Ashbrook. Nathan Smith scored the empty netter for the Mavs.

MSU (14-4, 10-2 CCHA) scored on the power play 6:39 into the game when Cade Borchardt found the back of the net. Nathan Smith and Julian Napravnik assisted on the play.

The Mavs added to their lead 3:15 into the second on a goal by Jake Livingstone from Nathan Smith.

MSU outshot the Huskies 20-19. Ashbrook and Misiak each had three shots for the Black and Gold.

Tech was 1-for-2 on the power play and 1-for-2 on the penalty kill after the teams were each whistled for a pair of minor penalties.

The Huskies are 8-7 overall and 5-5 in the CCHA and host the newest NCAA Division I program St. Thomas next weekend (Dec. 10-11) for a CCHA series. It will be the first meeting between the two teams since 1953. The puck will drop at 7:07 p.m. Friday and 6:07 p.m. Saturday at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena.
