Huskies come back for 6-4 win over Ferris Friday

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech hockey team had a come from behind 6-4 victory over Ferris State Friday (Nov. 26) at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena. The Huskies were down 3-1 but scored five straight goals to improve to 7-5 overall and 4-3 in the CCHA.
"It was a hard game like we expected," Tech coach Joe Shawhan said. "Obviously we weren't happy with the start. The Bliss, Halonen, Parrottino line was good all night and provided leadership by example.
"They are a tremendously coached team. I'm glad that we had enough time to come back from that two-goal deficit."
Down 3-1 entering the second period, co-captain Trenton Bliss got the offense rolling with his second of the night 5:51 after intermission. He buried a rebound after a shot by Brian Halonen for his sixth of the season and 36th of his career.
Colin Swoyer tied it up for the Huskies at 15:44 with a long shot through traffic and the goaltender that trickled across the line. Alec Broetzman and Arvid Caderoth assisted on Swoyer's second of the season and 11th of his career.
Brian Halonen scored the go-ahead goal 3:31 into the third period. He one-timed in a no-look backhanded pass by Tommy Parrottino for his seventh of the season and 39th of his career. Trenton Bliss added the second assist.
"We have good chemistry right now," Bliss said. "All three of us can make skill plays. We want to be hard on the puck and good on the forecheck. We do it it every day in practice and want to be at our best on Fridays and Saturdays."
Tristan Ashbrook made it a two-goal lead with his fourth of the season after sniping in a one-timer from Logan Pietila with 7:33 to go in the third.
Ashbrook struck again 5:18 later with a power-play goal from Brian Halonen and Brett Thorne. Halonen carried the puck all around the zone before finding Ashbrook open in front of the crease.
FSU (4-11, 2-5 CCHA) scored with 44 seconds left for the 6-4 final. Liam MacDougall scored from Drew Cooper and Justin Michaelian.
Tech led in shots 32-22. Blake Pietila earned his seventh win of the season for the Huskies with 18 saves.
The Bulldogs opened scoring 2:39 into the game when Nick Nardecchia found the back of the net on a breakaway.
Trenton Bliss tied the game with his first of the night 11:16 into the first when he jammed in his own rebound. Brian Halonen and Colin Swoyer assisted.
Jake Transit gave the visitors their lead back at 12:30 when he finished off a 2 on 1 with Nardecchia. Ethan Stewart also assisted.
Marshall Moise gave Ferris State its 3-1 lead with a quick wrist shot after a faceoff win with 1:18 left in the first period. Stepan Pokorny had the assist with the draw win.
"That was probably our worst start to a game all year," Halonen said. "We cannot be doing that in this league. Any team can win. They got three on us before we came to play. We were able to clean it up.
"I'm just winning more battles with the puck and taking care of it. Right now, I'm playing with some really good players in Bliss and Parrottino. I get a lot of help from those guys."
Tech was 3 for 3 on the penalty kill and 1 for 3 on the power play after the teams were both whistled for three minors.
The teams will wrap up the CCHA series at 6:07 p.m. Saturday.
