POTSDAM, NY – No. 18 Michigan Tech had a weekend split at Clarkson after the Golden Knights defeated the Huskies 2-1 Saturday (Oct. 30) at Cheel Arena. Brian Halonen scored the lone goal for the Huskies for his third of the weekend.

"We knew it was going to be a grind when we came in here and came out with a split," Tech coach Joe Shawhan said. "Other than four and a half minutes tonight we were very good. We'll grow from this, watch some film, have a good practice on Monday, and put this behind us."

For the second night in a row, Halonen gave the Huskies the lead in the second period. Trenton Bliss won the offensive zone faceoff and Halonen wristed a shot from the top of the circle through traffic for his 36th career goal.

Clarkson (4-2-1) scored two goals before the end of the second to take the lead. Anthony Romano tied the game with 1:46 left for the Golden Knight's first goal of the weekend. Zach Tsekos and Noah Beck assisted.

Chris Klack put the home team in front only 1:27 seconds later when he capitalized on a turnover by the Huskies.

Early in the third period, a shot by Brett Thorne trickled through the goaltender and sat in the crease before a Golden Knight swept it out.

Coach Shawhan added the extra attacker with 2:38 left. Tech had seven shots towards the goal but only one got through to the goaltender. Arvid Caderoth had the best chance on a rebound but the puck was deflected over the net.

"I'm proud of the way we played," added Shawhan. "We executed extremely well in certain areas, but we need more guys to generate more offense throughout the lineup."

Tech outshot Clarkson 21-13, taking seven shots per period. Blake Pietila had 11 saves and Ethan Haider stopped 20 shots for the home team.

The Huskies penalty kill continued to be perfect on the season going 2-for-2.

Eric Gotz played in his 100th career game Saturday.

Tech opens CCHA play next weekend by hosting Lake Superior State at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena. The puck drops at 7:07 p.m. Friday and 6:07 p.m. Saturday.
