Huskies fall 2-1 Saturday to Bemidji State

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Bemidji State defeated No. 18 Michigan Tech for the second night in a row. The Huskies tied the game in the third, but the Beavers scored with 10:10 left to retake the lead and held on for a 2-1 victory.
For the third game in a row, the Huskies dominated in shots on goal but couldn't solve the opposing goaltender. Zach Driscoll had 33 saves for the Beavers.
"The guys played hard and generated offense. We didn't give up much," Tech coach Joe Shawhan said. "They scored when they had to score. They deserved to win the game, and we have to keep working to find ways to put the puck in the net."
Tommy Parrottino scored the lone goal for the Black and Gold when he put in a rebound after a shot by Justin Misiak 6:00 into the third period. Colin Swoyer had the secondary assist with a shot from the point that was saved.
Ross Armour scored the go-ahead goal 3:50 after the Huskies tied it. He was in on a 2-on-1 with Alex Ierullo but kept the puck himself and roofed his first of the season. Alex Adams had the assist.
Tech (14-8-1, 4-5-0 WCHA) had chances late in the game. Justin Misiak almost scored after a feed out front from Tommy Parrottino. The puck squirted out top and Brenden Datema blasted a one-timer that sat in the crease before a defenseman swept it away.
Coach Shawhan pulled goaltender Mark Sinclair with 2:28 left for the extra attacker. Driscoll only had to make one save in the final minutes as he got help with three blocked shots by the players in front of him.
BSU (9-6-3, 4-3-1 WCHA) opened scoring 11:21 into the game when a shot by Alex Ierullo found its way across the goal line. Lukas Sillinger and Brad Johnson were credited with the assists.
Shots were 34-16 in favor of the Huskies. Brian Halonen hit the post in the first period and Brenden Datema had a different shot trickle through Driscoll that went just wide.
Mark Sinclair had 14 saves for the Huskies in his first action since February 5 at Alabama Huntsville.
Alec Broetzman played his 100th career game Saturday night and is the first junior to hit the century mark.
Tech continues the seven-game homestand and wraps up a WCHA series with Lake Superior State on Tuesday (Feb. 23). The puck will drop at 2:07 p.m.
