Hockey Opens Season at Wisconsin on October 1

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech hockey team will open its 2017-18 season at the University of Wisconsin for the annual United States Hockey Hall of Fame Game on Sunday, October 1 at the Kohl Center. The time for the game is still to be announced.

The U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Game is an exempt game with much of the proceeds supporting the United States Hockey Hall of Fame and Museum in Eveleth, Minnesota.

This game provides the opportunity for Tech and Wisconsin to play one additional game above and beyond the NCAA maximum normally allowed in a season. In essence, this is an "extra" regular season game for both the Huskies and Badgers for the 2017-18 season.

The two teams split their last meeting in January 2015 at the Kohl Center. Tech won big 8-1 the first night with the Badgers bouncing back 2-0 even after the Huskeis out shot UW 47-19.

Wisconsin was 20-15-1 last season and 12-8-0 in the Big Ten. The Badgers fell to Penn State in the Big Ten Championship. Tech was 23-15-7 overall and went to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years after winning the WCHA Tournament Championship.
