Sturos Named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week
EDINA, Minn. – Michigan Tech senior forward Reid Sturos was named the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week on Monday (Oct. 17). Sturos helped the Huskies secure five out of a possible six WCHA points over Alabama Huntsville over the weekend.
Sturos earns recognition for a goal that, per NCAA rules does not count in the official statistics, but goes down in the history books as the first regular season, double-overtime game-winner in WCHA history. Playing in the WCHA's first-ever 3-on-3 overtime, the senior from Brighton, Mich. buried the winner against Alabama Huntsville to give Michigan Tech the extra league point after a 1-1 tie. Sturos also helped the Huskies to a 7-3 win in the series opener, netting a power-play goal. This is Sturos' fourth career WCHA weekly award, but first since winning three Rookie of the Week honors as a freshman in 2013-14.
Sturos is tied with Shane Hanna for the team lead in goals with two. He has 53 points on 20 goals and 33 assists in 110 career games.
The Huskies hit the road this weekend (Oct. 21-22) for a nonconference series at the University of Michigan. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. both nights from Yost Ice Arena.
