Phillips Signs Two-year Deal with Jets
Winnipeg, MB - The Winnipeg Jets announced Saturday (July 2nd) they have signed goaltender Jamie Phillips to a two-year entry-level NHL contract worth an AAV of $675,000 in the NHL.
Phillips, 23, played four seasons at Michigan Tech University posting a 1.97 goals against average and a .922 save percentage in 36 games last year. He leaves Michigan Tech as the all-time shutout leader with 10. Phillips took home the WCHA Outstanding Student-Athlete this past season. A finalist for the 2015-16 Senior CLASS Award, Phillips has been involved with numerous community programs, including volunteer work with Houghton-area youth gymnastics and hockey teams. Jamie was part of a senior class that helped bring the MacNaughton Cup back to Houghton for the first time in 40 years.
This follows up an impressive 2014-15 season for Phillips in which the Caledonia, ON native played in 41 games posting a 1.74 goals against average and .933 save percentage to go along with being named to the WCHA first all-star team. That season, he was also nominated for the Mike Richter Award which honors the most outstanding goalie in NCAA men's hockey.
Prior to Michigan Tech Phillips was drafted in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft in the seventh round (190th overall) by the Winnipeg Jets. He played his junior hockey for the Toronto Jr. Canadiens in 2011-12. Appeared in 11 games and posted a .917 saves percentage and 3.11 goals against average. Jamie started the 2011-12 season with the Powell River Kings (BCHL) where he put up a .921 saves percentage and 2.01 goals against average in 26 games. He spent the 2010-11 season with the Pembroke Lumber Kings of the BCHL, where he posted a 25-6-1 record and won the RBC Cup (Canadian National Jr. A Championship).
