Joe Shawhan [Shawn] has been named the 22nd head coach of Michigan Tech hockey team Director of Athletics Suzanne Sanregret announced Tuesday (May 30). Shawhan is a 20-year veteran of hockey coaching with over 10 years in college and 10 years in junior hockey. He has been an assistant coach for the Huskies for the past three seasons.

Michigan Tech hockey senior Shane Hanna signed with the Texas Stars of the AHL for the 2017-18 season, the team announced Wednesday (May 10) afternoon. Texas is the primary AHL affiliate of the NHL’s Dallas Stars.

Tech Hockey will Play in Ice Vegas Invitational in January

Michigan Tech will play in the inaugural Ice Vegas Invitational on January 5-6, 2018 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The first-ever college hockey tournament at T-Mobile Arena, the home of the NHL's Vegas Golden Knights, will also feature Arizona State, Boston College, and Northern Michigan.

Chris Conner and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms play Pheonix Copley and the Hershey Bears, Blake Pietila and the Albany Devils open up against the Toronto Marlies, and Angus Redmond’s San Diego Gulls matchup against Matt Roy’s Ontario Reign.
