Three Huskies Earn GLIAC Honors, Lucca Named Freshman of the Year

BAY CITY, Mich. – The Michigan Tech men's basketball team had three players earn Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason honors, announced Monday by the league office. Tommy Lucca headlined the list by being named the GLIAC Freshman of the Year along with earning a spot on the All-GLIAC Second Team. Senior Jordan Chartier and sophomore Kyle Monroe joined Lucca in being honored by the GLIAC.

Lucca, a guard from Genoa, Ill., is the second leading scorer for the Huskies this season thanks to a 16.3 points per game average. Lucca ranks sixth in the GLIAC in scoring average going into the postseason on Tuesday night. In addition to his point production, Lucca leads the Huskies and is fourth in the GLIAC in assists per game at 4.4. He also hauls down 3.9 rebounds per game and produces 1.2 steals per contest on the defensive end of the floor.

Monroe, a forward from Green Bay, Wis., was named to the All-GLIAC First Team for his work on the court this season. Monroe leads the Huskies and is fifth in the GLIAC in scoring with a 19.7 points per game average going into the postseason. Monroe also paces Tech in rebounding at 7.4 boards per contest to go along with a 1.8 assists per game average. His rebounding average is currently eighth in the GLIAC statistical rankings. Monroe is approaching 1,000 career points, needing 22 points on Tuesday to reach the milestone. Monroe has scored 493 points this year so far after posting 485 points as a freshman during the 2015-16 campaign.

Chartier, a guard from Chatham, Michigan, was selected as an All-GLIAC Second Team member in addition to be named to the GLIAC All-Defensive Team. Chartier is having an outstanding senior season for the Huskies by averaging 13.3 points per game while sinking a team best 44.0% of his attempts from behind the arc. His three-point shooting percentage is 10th best in the GLIAC statistical rankings. Defensively, Chartier averages 1.1 steals per game and grabs 3.6 defensive rebounds per contest. Chartier is one of the top defenders in the conference when it comes to limiting the offensive production of the opponents he guards game in and game out.

The Huskies will host Wayne State on Tuesday night in the GLIAC Quarterfinals at the SDC Wood Gym. The tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
