Josh Wood begins his 12th year at Michigan Tech in 2022-23. Wood's primary duties are as the secondary defensive coordinator/recruiting. He also oversees the defensive backs. Wood spent his first three years at Tech as a graduate assistant for the defense.

In 2021, the Huskies finished 6-4 overall, including 5-2 in the GLIAC for third place. Tech football also notched its 11th straight victory over Northern Michigan in the Miner's Cup in Marquette 21-14 on October 16.

The 2020 season was cancelled due to Covid-19. Michigan Tech wrapped up the 2019 campaign 5-5 and finished fifth in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference standings. The Huskies secured the Miner's Cup for the 10th straight season with a 24-20 victory over rival Northern Michigan October 12 at Sherman Field at Kearly Stadium. Twelve Michigan Tech players earned GLIAC Postseason honors while defensive lineman Nate LaJoie was a D2CCA First Team All-Region and Don Hansen First Team All-American.

Wood spent the 2010 season as the cornerbacks coach and assistant special teams coordinator at Adams State. The Grizzlies posted a 5-6 record and placed fifth in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The ASC defense ranked second in the RMAC in total defense and first in pass defense efficiency.

The Manitou Springs, Colo., native graduated in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Black Hills State in Spearfish, S.D. He played football there for two seasons, tallying 83 tackles and two interceptions while being named All-Dakota Athletic Conference Honorable Mention.

Wood’s collegiate career began at Chadron State, as he helped the Eagles to a 24-2 overall record and quarterfinal appearances in the NCAA Playoffs in both 2006 and 2007.
