Men's Basketball Leads Wire to Wire in Win over Michigan Tech

The Warriors avenged an earlier season loss to the Huskies back on Dec. 9 in Houghton.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's basketball team (11-14 overall, 5-11 GLIAC) hit a three-pointer 46 seconds into Thursday night's game against Michigan Tech (9-15 overall, 6-9 GLIAC) and never looked back.  The Warriors led wire to wire defeating the Huskies by a score of 75-61 inside the Fieldhouse.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
Wayne State outscored Michigan Tech 22-7 through the contest's first 10+ minutes as six different Warriors found the scoring column in that stretch.

Those six included Ray Williams, Jr. (Detroit, Mich. / Edison Public School Academy) with six, Colin Golson, Jr. (Detroit, Mich. / Ferndale (Siena / Eastern Michigan)) with five, Carmelo Harris (Flint, Mich. / Beecher) with five, Rob Lee, Jr. (Flint, Mich. / Beecher) with two, Jordan Briggs (Muskegon, Mich.) with two and Kaimen Lennox (Kansas City, Mo. / Truman (Hutchinson CC)) with two.

The Warriors pushed their lead to 16 (25-9) thanks to a Briggs free throw before the Huskies countered with a mini 9-3 spurt that cut the margin down to 10 (28-18) at the six-minute mark.

With that being said, the home team's advantage would never get smaller than that and grew as big as 16 again at 40-24.  Heading into the intermission, WSU was in control by 13, 42-29.

Second Half
Wayne State's largest lead of the night was 20 (56-36) and came at the 13:51 juncture of the second half.  The hosts outscored their visitors 14-7 in those first six-plus minutes with five of those 14 points coming from Harris.

The closest Michigan Tech could get from there until the final buzzer was 13 (60-47) before the final margin of 14.
