George McCarthy
Inducted October 28, 1989

 

George McCarthy was an outstanding hockey player for the Huskies from 1935-38 and has been a strong supporter of the Michigan Tech hockey program since graduating.

McCarthy was very active while at MTU, playing varsity hockey three seasons, each year being named Most Valuable Player. In 1937-38, he served as co-captain of the hockey team, president of the Varsity Club, and president of Tau Beta Psi. He was selected to Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities in 1938.

Since leaving the University, McCarthy has continued to lend his help to the hockey program at MTU. Most recently he established the George McCarthy Performance Award, an annual honor given to a current hockey player with both atheltic and academic prowess.
