Fred Lonsdorf
Inducted October 30, 1999

A legendary name in skiing throughout the country, Fred Lonsdorf coached the Michigan Tech skiing teams for 32 seasons (1947-79).

Also the manager of Mont Ripley Ski Hill during that same time, Lonsdorf was a key figure in bringing skiing and ski racing to the upper midwest.

He coached three skiers that were part of the National Team and Olympic Team during his tenure and in 1959 started the first training camp for junior skiers.

Lonsdorf, who served in the 10th Mt. Division in World War II, was the first full-time college ski coach in the midwest and served on the NCAA rules committee for many years.

A native of Iron Mountain, Michigan, Fred passed away on December 17, 1996.
