Ed Maki
Inducted August 3, 1985

From 1934 to 1937, Ed Maki guarded the nets for the Huskies' hockey team, helping establish Michigan Tech as a national power in the sport. Named to the Midwest All-Star team three times, he became the first Tech player to earn All-American honors in 1937. The following year, Maki won a berth on the U.S. national team (also the first Michigan Tech player to gain that honor) and led the United States to a silver medal at the 1939 World Championships.

Graduating in 1938 with a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering, Maki returned to Michigan Tech in 1939 as assistant athletic director. He coached three sports - football, hockey, and track - and was director of intramural sports while teaching physical education and first aid. Maki was a charter member of the U.S. College Hockey Coaches Association and founded the Copper Country junior Hockey League. After nine years with Michigan Tech (including a four year stint in the armed forces during World War II), Maki left to go into private industry in 1948. Maki also played football for four years while at Michigan Tech.
