Calvin Larson was named the Assistant Athletic Director - Media Relations at Michigan Tech in May 2020. He was previously a Director of Athletic Communication since August 2016 and the Director of New Media for the Huskies from October 2012 to April 2015.

Larson oversees the media relations efforts for the department, including graphic design and video production. He is also the primary media contact for hockey, volleyball, and esports.

Larson creates the content for the video board in the MacInnes Student Ice Arena, produces all home hockey games from the video production room, and travels with hockey to assist in radio and media coverage of the Huskies. He votes on the weekly USCHO poll, has won a NACMA "Best Of" award three times for hockey promotional videos, and three CoSIDA Design awards for motion graphics and the Remembering Thatcher feature video. He is also an Adjunct Instructor in the Kinesiology and Integrative Physiology Department at Michigan Tech.

Larson spent 15 months as a Marketing Specialist for UP Health System – Portage from April 2015 to August 2016.

Larson started his sports information career at Northern Michigan University, spending three years in Marquette. He started in August 2010 and was hired as the Sports Information Director in July 2011.

Larson is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and has attended five annual conventions. He presented at the 2018 convention in Washington DC, the 2019 convention in Orlando, and online in 2020 on the topic of motion graphics.

A native of Chassell, Michigan, Larson received a bachelor’s degree in scientific and technical communication from Michigan Tech in 2010. He worked in the sports information office as a student and was also a member of the men’s basketball team for the 2007-08 season.

Prior to attending Tech, Larson spent a year at Finlandia University where he played basketball and ran cross country at the NCAA Division III level.

Larson was the Head Golf Coach at Chassell Township Schools for five years from 2015-20. He had a golfer win an individual title at the MHSAA's 2018 UP Finals.

Larson resides in Chassell with his wife Amy, son Clark, and daughters Sadie and Millie. His hobbies include golfing, fishing, mountain biking, photography, and playing basketball.
