Bio

Bill Sproule has over forty years experience in government, consulting, university teaching and research in Canada and the United States. Born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, he received a BSCE from Michigan Tech, a M.Eng. in civil engineering from the University of Toronto, and a Ph.D. in civil engineering (transportation) from Michigan State University. He joined the faculty at Michigan Tech in 1996 and is currently a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. His teaching and research interests include airport design, transportation planning, traffic engineering, public transit, and hockey history. Assisted in the development of the Michigan Tech Rail Transportation Program. He has been active in many professional associations and has received several awards including the Michigan Tech Distinguished Teaching Award and the ASCE Robert Horonjeff Award for his work in airport engineering. Co-author of the airport textbook, "Planning and Design of Airports", and several ASCE airport and automated people mover conference proceedings, and author of a regional interest book, "Copper Country Streetcars". Bill was appointed Michigan Tech's Faculty Athletic Representative in 2010.
