HOUGHTON, Mich. – After two weeks of preparation and training, the Michigan Tech cross country team is heading for Evansville, Indiana for the 2019 NCAA Division II Midwest Region Championship on Saturday (Nov. 9). The race, hosted by the University of Southern Indiana, will be held at Angel Mounds Golf Course, with the women running the 6K race at 10:30 a.m. CST, followed by the men's 10K race at 11:45 a.m. CST.

Braden Reichl, Matt Pahl, and Clayton Sayen all picked up First Team All-GLIAC finishes for the men's team with top 10 finishes at the 2019 GLIAC Championships, while Brendan Klynstra earns a Second Team All-GLIAC finish for placing 18th. The Huskies earned a second-place finish with 57 team points, placing them 13 points behind champions Grand Valley State and four points ahead of Saginaw Valley State in third place.

Emily Byrd made it four All-GLIAC finishes in four GLIAC Championships when she came in eighth, and Gabrielle Feber picked up Second Team All-GLIAC honors by finishing in 18th. Michigan Tech finished the women's race in third with 92 points, two points off Saginaw Valley State for second and 17 points ahead of Wayne State in fourth.

In the latest USTFCCCA national and regional polls, the men's and women's teams find themselves ranked among the top 25 in the country and the top 10 in the Midwest Region. The men's teams currently ranks eighth in the country and second in the Region, and the women's team was selected 19th in Division II and seventh in the Midwest Region.

The top three teams from each race will advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships on November 23 in Sacramento, California. The top two individual runners who are not on an advancing team will automatically qualify for the National Championships. The remaining teams and individual runners will wait for an announcement from the NCAA on whether they will qualify as an at-large bid.

"The number one goal for this weekend is to qualify, that's the most important thing right now," said head coach Jake Isaacson.
