MARQUETTE, Mich. – In their final race of the regular season, the Michigan Tech men's and women's cross country teams saw many of their runners finish with personal bests at the UP Cross Country Championships.

"It was a pretty solid day for both squads," said head coach Jake Isaacson. "We now have a clearer picture of our championship rosters. We also had a lot of personal bests set today, which is encouraging for our student-athletes to see the result of their hard work."

At the NMU Golf Course, the Michigan Tech women placed six scoring runners inside the top 10 in the 5k race, with three finishing in the top five. Senior Robyn Holmes placed third with a time of 18:59.4, while junior Sarah Goble crossed the finish line behind her in fourth at 19:08.7, and sophomore Carly Huggins came in fifth with a time of 19:08.9. Junior Julia Manzano was the next Tech runner across the finish line, completing the course in 19:27.3 to place eighth, and she was followed shortly after by Lucille Nunneley in ninth with a time of 19:33.0.

On the men's side of the race, the Huskies had five runners place and score inside the top 15 following the 8k course. Freshman Kristoffer Vollset was the top finisher for the MTU men with a fifth-place finish in a time of 27:27.9. He was followed in eighth, ninth, and tenth by senior Gaspard Cuenot (27:45.7), freshman Dutch Schafer (27:46.4), and freshman Ben Holland (27:53.2), respectively. With the regular season now concluded, Michigan Tech will now set their focus on the 2018 GLIAC Championships on November 3 at Grand Valley State University. The men and women both finished third at last year's conference championships in Marquette, Michigan, with the men securing one All-GLIAC First Team finish and the women nabbing three Second Team All-GLIAC finishers.
