Huskies Compete at Blugold Invitational
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The Michigan Tech men's and women's cross country teams finished 10th and 17th, respectively, at the Blugold Invitational, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
The MTU men finished 10th in a race comprised of some of the top competition in Divisions II and III, scoring 295 points. The Black and Gold finished 11 points ahead of St. John's (Mich.) and 14 points behind Wheaton.
"Everyone showed some progress at this point in the season, but we're still a long way from where we want to be," said head coach Jake Isaacson. "The men definitely improved from our first race, and we need to build on this moving forward."
Sophomore Braden Reichl crossed the finish line first for the Huskies, completing the eight kilometer race in 28:08.5 to place 45th. Sophomore Luke Moore finished right behind Reichl in 46th, running the course in 26:08.8. Freshman Clayton Sayen crossed the finish line with a time of 26:24.8 to place 57th. Also scoring for the Michigan Tech men were sophomores Zach Werth (26:41.0) and Robbie Watling (26:47.9) in 80th and 86th, respectively.
Running a young team at the event, the Michigan Tech women finished the race with a team score of 541, placing them two points ahead of Wisconsin-Whitewater and 145 points behind Aurora College for 17th place.
Freshman Theresa Passe was the highest-finishing Husky in the race for the women's side, running the 6k course in a time of 24:04.8 to finish 81st. Sophomore Chloe Strach was next to cross the finish line, placing 125th with a time of 24:38.5, and she was followed by senior Cassie Gietek (25:44.9) in 190th, freshman Mary Lyon (26:03.4) in 209th, senior Anna Kubek (26:29.2) in 229th, redshirt freshman Breanna Ammerman (27:03.1) in 254th, and freshman Jenna Disser (27:36.9) in 271st.
The Michigan Tech women will run on Saturday (Sept. 29) at the Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota.
