Huskies Men’s Cross Country Team Wins Bay College Invitational

ESCANABA, Mich. – The Michigan Tech cross country teams raced in the Bay College Invitational Saturday (Sept. 30). The men's team took first place overall and the women's team had two racers compete.

In a field of 47 racers, seven of the Tech men finished in the top 10. Tom Bye led the Huskies in second place with a time of 27:15, followed by Chase Scheel (5th, 27:44), Cory Burkwald (6th, 27:44), Logan Lukonic (7th, 27:54), Garrett Smith (8th, 27:56), Eric Houck (9th, 28:12) and Marcus Shamberg (10th, 28:19). The Huskies won the invitational.

"Pretty good day for these crews and it was nice to see some guys step up and represent Michigan Tech with the team win," said Tech head coach Jake Isaacson. "Tom and Lucille had very strong performances, and our men's pack was very solid throughout the race. We're still filling gaps for our varsity rosters, and these next two weeks will determine our championship teams."

David Mitter of Lake Superior State placed first overall with a time of 27:15 for the men's race.

The Huskies women had two competitors in the invitational. Lucille Nunneley placed second overall out of 28 racers, she cracked the line at 20:08. Daniella Kyllonen, was Tech's other female competitor, she placed 11th at a time of 22:06.

Kameron Burmeister of Northern Michigan, finished first at 18:22 for first place.

The cross country teams will travel next weekend, Saturday (Oct. 7), to Romeoville, Ill. to compete at the Conference Cross Over Invitational.
