Tech Cross Country Hosts Pre-GLIAC Meet

HOUGHTON, Mich. — Michigan Tech hosted the Pre-GLIAC Cross Country Meet today with Lake Superior State, Northern Michigan (women only) and Gogebic participating. The Huskies men's team finished second (of three teams) while the women were third (of four teams).

Ethan Norstog was Tech's top male with a fourth-place finish among collegiate runners. He completed the eight kilometers in 28:26.3. Shawn Shove (29:04) and Nathan LaBarge (29:06) were the next two in sixth and seventh places, respectively. Samuel Holmes ran a 29:43 to take 10th. Jay Woodbeck rounded out the team score with a 13th-place showing and time of 30:09.

"I'm pretty happy with the way Norstog ran," said head coach Joe Haggenmiller. "We were resting a lot of our top guys to save some gunpowder for the Griak (Invitational in Minneapolis) next week."

In the women's six-kilometer race, Sarah Daniels placed sixth to lead the Huskies. Her time was 24:32. Alice Flanders was Tech's next finisher in 26:50 and 17th position. Nicole Wehner (23rd, 27:27), Lisa Koenig (26th, 28:03) and Anna-Catharina Wilhelm (27th, 28:19) also factored into Michigan Tech's team score.

"Daniels and Flanders ran some really good times, as did a lot of our athletes on the day.

"Overall, it was great to get these races in at home. The course is setting up well for the GLIAC Championship come October."

The Michigan Tech cross country teams will travel to the Twin Cities next Saturday (Sept. 28) for the Roy Griak Invitational, which is the nation's largest collegiate race.
