Huskies Fall to Wildcats in GLIAC Volleyball Play Video

HOUGHTON, Mich. — Northern Michigan defeated Michigan Tech 3-0 in GLIAC volleyball tonight at the SDC Gym. The visiting Wildcats hit .322 for the match to improve to 11-12 overall and 11-3 in GLIAC play. The Huskies are now 9-14 overall and 6-8 in the league.

NMU jumped out 9-2 lead in the opening set and never looked back. The final tally was 25-15.

Tech held a 22-18 lead in set two and earned a set point at 24-23 after an Aubrey Ficek kill. The Wildcats worked back to a 25-24 lead after a kill and a service ace. Another service ace for NMU finished off the set 27-25.

The Huskies got down early in set three and were never able to dig out. NMU hit .483 in the final frame to finish it off.

The teams combined for 30 service errors. Northern Michigan had 18 with six aces. Tech committed 12 with one ace.

"One team played to win and another played to not lose tonight," said Tech coach Matt Jennings. "NMU was the more aggressive team, especially at the net. Credit goes to them."

Ficek, Lauren Emmert and Stephanie Dietrich all finished with a team-high six kills. Jacqueline Aird posted 13 digs in the back row.

Michigan Tech will play two more home matches this week beginning with a Friday (Oct. 31) tilt vs. Saginaw Valley State. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
