Huskies stymied by Warriors 7-0

DETROIT - Late scratches from the singles lineup and strong play by Wayne State doomed Michigan Tech in a 7-0 loss to the Warriors Saturday at WSU Courts in GLIAC play. The Huskies dropped their second match of the weekend as Wayne State swept doubles and did not drop a set in singles to improve to 10-6, 5-0 GLIAC. MTU fell to 1-8, 1-4 GLIAC with four regular season matches to play.

"We lacked energy today and that made it even tougher against a difficult opponent in Wayne State," said head coach Kristin Yep. "We need to continue to focus on getting healthy."

Ivona Gorgioski and Neva Manas came closest to winning in doubles for the Huskies, dropping a 6-3 decision to Brianna Douglas and Sabrina Laynes.

Anais Ruyssen put away Dominika Bobik at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-1, and the Huskies had retirements at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Marina Fernandez dropped a pair of 6-3 sets at No. 4 singles to Brianna Douglas.

Michigan Tech returns to Houghton for just the second time this season next week, when they host Davenport (April 15) and Purdue Northwest (April 16). The GLIAC Tournament quarterfinals are set for April 29, should the team qualify.
