Huskies Top Edinboro 6-3 Wednesday

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Michigan Tech women's tennis team powered past Edinboro University for a 6-3 win Wednesday at the Spring Tennis Fest in Hilton Head, South Carolina. It's the Huskies second win on the spring break trip and 10th overall this season.

Michigan Tech (10-8) jumped out to a 2-1 lead thanks to a pair of points in the doubles portion of Wednesday's match. Natalia Parra Alvarez and Sandra Cvetanovic edged Laura Lopez and Tatiana Batalla 8-6 for a key point in the No. 1 spot in the lineup. Vicky Quinde and Anabella Neri teamed up to pull away from Roxana Yeh and Marija Tmusic in the No. 2 spot 8-3. The Scots only three points in the entire match were uncontested due to the Huskies being a little shorthanded due to injury.

The Huskies carried their 2-1 lead into singles and claimed points in each of the top four spots in the lineup. Cvetanovic recorded her 11th win of the season in singles contests with a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Lopez in the No. 1 spot. Quinde outran Batalla 6-3, 6-4 in No.2 singles and in the process picked up her ninth singles win of the 2017-18 season, tied for second most on the team.

Neri and Alvarez rounded out the singles portion of the match with wins in the No. 3 and No. 4 spots in the lineup. Neri powered past Yeh 6-4, 6-2 for her eighth overall singles win while Alvarez delivered an 8-4 win over Jelena Vucenovic for her eighth overall win this season as well. The other two points in singles that went to Edinboro were uncontested.

The Huskies will wrap up the spring portion of the schedule on Thursday in Hilton Head against Lenoir-Rhyne. The first serve is slated for 11:15 a.m.
