Tennis Huskies Win at Lake Superior

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — The Michigan Tech women's tennis team earned its third victory of the season today with a 7-2 triumph at Lake Superior State. The Huskies are now 3-7 (3-7 GLIAC).

Tech led 2-1 after doubles, but for the first time this season Kwang Suthijindawong and Sandra Cvetanovic were defeated in a dual match. The pair fell 8-2 at No. 1. The Huskies other two teams both earned victories by 8-1 scores. Emilia and Erika Tenizbaeva won at No. 2, while Natalia Parra Alvarez and Kat Donovan won at No. 3.

In singles, Suthijindawong continued her unbeaten GLIAC career (34-0) via a 6-1, 6-1 score at No. 1. Emilia Tenizbaeva had the tightest match of the day at No. 3 where she won 4-6, 6-2, 7-5. The Huskies' bottom three singles players all won in straight sets: Parra Alvarez 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3; Erika Tenizbaeva 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5; and Donovan 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6.

"Overall it was a good team effort today," said Tech coach Kevin Kalinec. "The Tenizbaeva sisters have been really playing well as of late, and that continued today. It was nice to see Natalia and Kat pick up wins as well."

Michigan Tech will be back in action next week with a couple mid-week matches that were rescheduled because of Suthijindawong and Cvetanovic's trip to the ITA Nationals. Next up is Tiffin Wednesday (Oct. 22) with a neutral-site match in Midland.
