Tennis Nipped by Bulldogs 5-4

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — The Michigan Tech tennis team came up one point short in a 5-4 loss at Ferris State today in GLIAC action. The difference in the match was doubles, where the host Bulldogs took two of three to earn the win.

None of the three doubles matches was close. Tech's Natalia Lebedeva and Kwang Suthijindawong earned an 8-3 victory at No. 1 while FSU's No. 2 and 3 doubles pairs earned wins by 8-1 and 8-2 scores, respectively.

As it has nearly all season, Tech dominated the top two singles flights. Lebedeva cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 1 while Suthijindawong continued to roll at No. 2 6-1, 6-0.

The Huskies led 3-2 at that point and 4-3 moments later as the Tenizbaeva sisters finished their singles matches. Erika fell 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 while Emilia won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4.

Tech needed just one of the final two singles matches to go its way but didn't get it. Kat Donovan was clipped 6-2, 7-5 at No. 6. Audrey Hutton lost 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5.

Michigan Tech is now 2-5 on the season (all league matches). The Huskies play at Grand Valley State tomorrow at 10 a.m.
