Ashland Edges Tech 5-4 in Women's Tennis

HOUGHTON, Mich. — Today's Michigan Tech women's tennis match came down to the final flight before Ashland pulled out a 5-4 decision in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. The Huskies claimed the top two flights in both singles and doubles, but the visiting Ealges won the other five.

The Huskies held a 2-1 lead after doubles. Natalia Lebedeva and Kwang Suthijindawong improved to 2-1 on the year with an 8-3 victory at No. 1. The Tenizbaeva sisters, Erika and Emilia, earned their first victory as a pair with an 8-6 decision at No. 2.

Tech's top two players continued their roll in singles as well. Lebedeva surrendered just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 dismissal of Zdenka Pozo at No. 1. Suthijindawong won by a clean sweep (6-0, 6-0) for the second time this season and has lost just two of the 38 singles games she's played in three matches this season.

Ashland earned the decisive point at No. 6 singles, where Kendal Stephens held off Huskies freshman Kat Donovan 6-2, 6-4.

Michigan Tech heads to Ohio for three matches next weekend beginning Friday (Sept. 13) at Malone.
