Tiffin Tops Tech 6-3 in Women's Tennis

HOUGHTON, Mich. — The Michigan Tech women's tennis team opened its 2013-14 season with a 6-3 loss at home against Tiffin today.

Tech battled through all three doubles matches but couldn't pull out any of the three. The Dragons won by 8-6 scores at both Nos. 1 and 3 and 8-4 at No. 2.

The Huskies top two singles players came through with wins in the opener. Kwang Suthijindawong gave Tech its first point of the match with a clean sweep of Tiffin's Valentina Mazzola at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0. No. 1 singles player Natalia Lebedeva also was victorious, claiming a 7-6 (3), 6-2 victory.

TU earned singles points at Nos. 3, 5 and 6 to clinch the team match. Tech's other point came at No. 4 singles from Emilia Tenizbaeva, who beat Chelsea Beck 6-4, 6-2.

Today's match was the first of three straight at home in as many days for the Huskies. Tomorrow's opponent is Ohio Dominican at noon.
