HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech soccer team concludes the first half of the GLIAC schedule by hosting no. 19 Northern Michigan at Kearly Stadium on Friday at 7 p.m.

The two teams are in a three-way tie for second with Saginaw Valley in the GLIAC standings with an in-league record of 3-1-2.

Friday's game will be aired locally on FOX-UP.TV6 and FOX-UP began broadcasting the Tech versus NMU rivalry during the 2013-14 season and added soccer to its lineup during the 2021 season. Dave Ellis will call the action from the Kearly Stadium.

About the Wildcats

Northern Michigan enters the week with an overall record of 7-1-2, most recently playing to a 0-0 draw against No. 13 Grand Valley State on Friday (Sep. 29) before routing Davenport 3-0 on Sunday (Oct. 1).

The Wildcats saw goals from three players in the win against the Panthers, with Stephanie Trujillo, Hannah Kastamo and Molly Pistorious contributing to the win.

NMU poured on 24 shots compared to the Panthers' four while holding a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal. Additionally, Northern Michigan accounted for 11 corner kicks to the Panthers two.

On the flip side, the Wildcats' defense has been stellar, seeing goalkeeper Jillian Thompson rank fourth nationally with six shutouts this season. 

Northern Michigan has three players with at least four goals this season, being led by Molly Pistorius with seven goals. As a team, the Wildcats rank 27th nationally with 27 goals this 

season.

About the Huskies

Michigan Tech concluded a home weekend with a 1-1 draw against Davenport on Friday (Sep. 29) before suffering its first loss since the opening week on Sunday (Oct. 1) coming against No. 13 nationally-ranked Grand Valley State, 2-0.

The Huskies overcame a 1-0 deficit against Davenport with a goal scored by Emilie Clayton 10 minutes after the Panthers struck. Grace Hoeppner earned the assist on the goal off a set piece.

Michigan Tech's offense has found a groove coming off corner kicks this season. Nationally, the Black & Gold rank 20th with 6.5 corner kicks per game, which ranks tops in the GLIAC.

Between the posts, senior Gracie VanLangevelde ranks 64th nationally with a goals-against average of 0.751.

Seulgi Lee paces the offense for the Huskies with four goals this season. Defensive specialists Cassie Bonifas and Emilie Clayton have accounted for three goals apiece this season.

One Last Thing

Michigan Tech last beat Northern Michigan at home on Oct. 3, 2021, in 2-0 fashion, with goals scored by Grace Shaw and Stephanie Yeager.
