Tech Soccer Adds Seven for 2023-24

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Seven student-athletes have signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Michigan Tech soccer team for the fall of 2023, announced head coach Turk Ozturk on Wednesday (Nov. 9). This year's incoming class includes players from four different states including Michigan, Minnesota, Oregon and Wisconsin.

"We are very excited to announce our 2023 class with our incoming seven student-athletes," Ozturk said. "We are thrilled that these young women are going to bring us much needed versatility to play in multiple roles as well as bring in the athleticism and creativity to spark our attack. This group will give us holding midfielders, outside backs, forwards, center-mids and outside mids to complement our returning squad."

Havanah Brockington | Outside Back/Center Midfielder | West De Pere, Wis.

Brockington was named 2022 Player of the Year in the Bay Conference, playing for West De Pere High School. She helped the West De Pere High School team win the Bay Conference Championships in 2022. In 2021 she was named tabbed First Team All-Conference in the Bay Conference. Brockington plans to major in biomedical engineering while at Tech.

Brockington on choosing MTU: "The soccer team was so welcoming and supportive. I wanted to get a good education and play good soccer and Michigan Tech fit that description. I love skiing, the snow, and anything outdoors!"

Brooke Green | Midfield/Forward | Bloomfield Hills, Mich.

Green was a part of the Bloomfield Hills High School team that won the district, regional and the D1 girls State Championship in 2022.  She was named to the All-District team in 2021. Green plans to major in finance while at Tech.

Green on choosing MTU: "I absolutely loved the vibe of the campus and the soccer team when I went up to visit. I immediately knew that that was where I wanted to go."

Allison Millina | Holding Back/Center Back | Milan, Mich.

Millina was a part of the Milan High School team that was District Champions in 2021. She has earned First Team All-League in the Huron League in 2020 and 2021. She was also tabbed two time All-Region Special Mention (2020, 2021) along with Milan High School Defensive Most Valuable Player in 2021. Plans to major in social sciences while at Tech. 

Millina on choosing MTU: "I chose Michigan Tech because I love their soccer program and I love the outdoors."

Claire Sampson | Center Forward | Dimondale, Mich.

Sampson was a part of the Lansing Catholic High School that made it to the CAAC District Finalist and the CAAC Bronze Finalists in 2022. She was tabbed to the CAAC All-Conference, CAAC All-District, CAAC All-League and CAAC All-Area in 2022. She tallied five goals to go with five assists in her junior season. She helped the Lansing Catholic High School to a CAAC White Championship in 2021, scoring three goals to go with four assists that season. Plans to major in general engineering while at Tech. 

Sampson on choosing MTU: "My Grandpa attended, great academic environment along with amazing outdoor activities to participate in."

Katelyn Sanders | Defense | Beaverton, Ore.

Sanders has tallied eight goals to go with 12 assists over her four seasons at Beaverton High School. She was tabbed First Team All-League in 2022 and First Team All-League Academic in 2021 and 2022. She was a part of the Beaverton High School team that was the 6A State Finalist in 2021, while being ranked fourth in the nation by United Soccer Coaches. Plans to major in human biology while at Tech.

Sanders on choosing MTU: " I chose Michigan Tech for its amazing research and educational opportunities as well as its successful soccer program which will push me both on and off the field."

Marissa Wentland | Center Midfielder/Outside Back | Maple Grove, Minn.

Wentland was a part of the Maple Grove High School team that won the Section 5AAA quarterfinals. She also runs track and earned All-Conference honors in the 4x200m relay. Wentland plans to major in mechanical engineering while at Tech.

Wentland on choosing MTU: "I choose Michigan Tech because I like the atmosphere there and wanted to study engineering while playing soccer. And my dad and grandpa went there."

Ryley Winrich | Center Midfielder | Tomah, Wis.

Winrich has accumulated 29 goals and three assists through three seasons at Tomah High School. In her junior season she tallied 17 goals to pair with 17 assists. She has been tabbed First Team All-Conference in both her sophomore and junior years, playing in the Mississippi Valley Conference. Winrich plans to major in electrical engineering while at Tech. 

Winrich on choosing MTU: "I chose Michigan Tech because I love the balance between high level soccer and academics. I also love the proximity to Lake Superior and the many opportunities to be outdoors."
