Tech Soccer Preps for Final Road Weekend

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech soccer team enters its final road weekend of the regular season facing Ferris State on Friday (Oct. 21) before a clash with Saginaw Valley State on Sunday (Oct. 23). Both contests will be played at 1 p.m.

Fans can catch both games on FloSports, as part of the four-year media partnership with the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference beginning this fall.

About the Bulldogs

Ferris State currently holds third in the GLIAC standings with an overall record of 8-3-4 while playing to a 6-1-4 record in the conference. Last weekend, the Bulldogs had a 1-0 win over Davenport on Friday (Oct. 14) before a 1-1 tie against No. 6 Grand Valley State on Sunday (Oct. 16).

Isabella Zamborini, leading the Bulldogs in goals, tallied her ninth of the season in the 1-0 win over Davenport. Goalkeeper Lauren Kubacki earned the shutout, moving to 5-0 overall this season, making one save against the Panthers.

Zamborini also got the only goal for the Bulldogs in the 1-1 draw against No. 6 Grand Valley State, making her the GLIAC leader in goals with 10 tallies on the season. 

Darya Mosallaei earned the draw in net for FSU making five stops.

About the Cardinals

Saginaw Valley State is 8-4-3 overall with a GLIAC record of 6-3-2, good for fourth in the conference standings. Last time out, the Cardinals fell 3-1 to No. 6 Grand Valley State on Friday (Oct. 14) before a 3-1 victory over Davenport on Sunday (Oct. 16).

Stephanie Strong had the lone tally for the Cardinals in the 3-1 loss on Friday against No. 6 GVSU, having four of the teams eight shots on frame.

In the 3-1 win against Davenport on Sunday, Amy Babon scored a penalty kick while Madie Saleh posted a goal following an own goal by Davenport between the SVSU goals.

Lainey Garbarz made three saves in the net for the Cardinals.

Saginaw Valley State will face Northern Michigan on Friday before welcoming the Huskies on Sunday.

About the Huskies

Michigan Tech, entering the final road weekend of the regular season riding a three game win-streak, is 6-6-3 overall while holding a GLIAC ledger of 4-4-3. The Huskies are stepping up at the right time, currently sitting fifth in the conference standings.

MTU rounded out the four-game homestand with a weekend sweep, besting both Parkside and Purdue Northwest in 2-0 fashion. 

The Huskies saw four different scorers with Mia van Der Heide and Ella Roach both earning their first career goals against Parkside on Friday night (Oct. 14). While Julia Pietila and Stephanie Yeager earned tallies in the Sunday win over Purdue Northwest on Sunday (Oct. 16).

Additionally, senior goalkeeper Gracie VanLangevelde collected two more shutouts, stopping five shots over the two games.

Yeager leads the Huskies in points this season with eight points having three goals and two assists.

VanLangevelde's efforts over the weekend earned her GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

One Last Thing

Of note, VanLangevelde is now 10th in the nation in shutouts, while being tops in the GLIAC. The Spring Lake, Michigan, native has a .733 goals against average, good for third in the conference.
