Six Huskies Earn GLIAC All-Conference Honors

BAY CITY, Mich. – Six players on the Michigan Tech soccer team earned Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason honors when the awards were announced by the conference office on Thursday afternoon.

Kirsen Hudak headlined the group by being named the GLIAC Goalie of the Year in addition to earning a spot on the All-GLIAC First Team. Hudak, a junior from Racine, Wisconsin, has played a pivotal role in Michigan Tech's success this season. Hudak is currently ranked in the top five in three GLIAC statistical categories. She is third in goals against average (0.57), fourth in save percentage (.889), and fifth in total saves (80). She has played every minute in goal for the Huskies and has a record of 11-3-3 with nine shutouts during the 2016 campaign.

Jaci Mielke joined Hudak on the All-GLIAC First Team with one of four spots awarded to forwards. Mielke, a senior from Green Bay, Wisconsin, leads the Tech offense this season with eight goals, five assists, and 21 points. Half of her goals have been game winners and on Tuesday Mielke delivered a clutch goal in the 2-1 win over Ferris State in the GLIAC Quarterfinals. Mielke was named to the All-GLIAC Second Team in 2014.

Kat Farkas, a junior from Brighton, Michigan, earned a spot on the All-GLIAC Second Team as a midfielder. Farkas has been instrumental in Tech's success this season, helping the Huskies limit opposing teams to 10 goals while shutting out teams nine times. In 2015, Farkas was a GLIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention selection.

Jessica Splittgerber was also selected to the All-GLIAC Second Team at the midfielder position. Splittgerber, who hails from De Pere, Wisconsin, has three goals and three assists for the Huskies in 2016. Splittgerber picked up one of her assists on the game winning goal in Tuesday's 2-1 triumph over Ferris State in the GLIAC Quarterfinals. One of her goals this season was also a game winning blast at Northern Michigan.

Emily Morin made the All-GLIAC Second Team as a defender and is a big factor in Tech's defensive prowess in 2016. Morin, a senior from Barrington, Ill., has played and started 16 games this season, recording one assist. Morin has played in 71 games during her four-year career going into Friday's semifinal match. In 2014, Morin was also named to the All-GLIAC Second Team and the GLIAC All-Tournament Team.

Maddie Faust rounds out the list of honorees with All-GLIAC Honorable Mention accolades. Faust, a senior from De Pere, Wisconsin, has started and played in all 17 games for Tech in 2016. Faust has also been a major contributor to the Huskies efforts on defense, which has been one of the best in the GLIAC this season. Faust has four career goals and one assist going into the weekend.

Michigan Tech, the No. 3 seed in the GLIAC Tournament, will battle the No. 7 seed Walsh University in the semifinals Friday night at Grand Valley State. The two teams played to a 0-0 draw at Walsh earlier this season. The kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
