Soccer Signs Three More for Fall 2015

HOUGHTON, Mich. — Michigan Tech soccer coach Michelle Jacob added three student-athletes to the Huskies roster for 2015. Kate Dorman (Manchester, Mich.), Darby McLaurin (Cadillac, Mich.) and Rachel Wall (Eagan, Minn.) will all attend Tech and play soccer starting next fall.

Dorman, a 5-10 defender, played at Manchester High School and for Michigan Premier Soccer Academy Crush club team. She earned all-conference honors each of the past two seasons while helping the Flying Dutchmen to back-to-back league and district titles. Dorman has six goals and 10 assists in her high school career including three goals and four assists during the current campaign. She also played basketball, helping Manchester to a 16-4 record this past winter.

"Kate's a talented multi-sport athlete who has the tenacity and attitute to play in the GLIAC," said Jacob. "Her club team was a big part of her soccer development. Kate has height, strength, speed and defensive presence. We see her contributing in a defensive midfield or centerback area although she has the background to step into other roles."

McLaurin is a 5-3 midfielder who played at Delta Community College last year after a strong career at Cadillac High School. She earned all-conference honors at Delta last fall. In three varsity seasons at Cadillac, she posted a combined 14 goals and 12 assists. McLaurin was twice named All-Big North Conference and was team MVP in 2014. As a basketball player at CHS, she helped the Vikings to a BNC title in 2013-14 while earning all-conference accolades.

"Darby is a quick and technical central midfielder who plays strongly on both sides of the ball," said Jacob. "Her experience in the Junior College ranks makes for a nice transition into Michigan Tech soccer. Her positive hard working attitude toward the game is just what we look for in our recruits."

Wall played at Eagan High School and for the Eagan Wave Soccer Club. The defender was a three-sport athlete in high school, competing in hockey and track and field in addition to starring for the Wildcats on the soccer field. She earned All-South Suburban Conference accolades last fall while helping Eagan to conference and state championships. On the ice, Eagan earned a league title. Wall served as captain of her high school and club soccer teams as well as her track team.

"Rachel has great speed, excellent touch and vision, plus the work ethic and drive necessary to help our team continue to be successful in the GLIAC," said Jacob. "An excellent wing defender, we feel she brings pace and the ability to play out of the back in that position. We also feel she has the potential to contribute in other areas of the field. Her competitive, outgoing personality is a great fit with our team."

Michigan Tech was 11-5-2 last fall with a third-place finish in the GLIAC and the program's second NCAA Tournament berth. The Huskies will play their sixth season of varsity soccer in 2015.
