Women's Soccer Falls at Northwood 1-0

MIDLAND, Mich. — Michigan Tech out-shot Northwood 15-4 but lost by a 1-0 score at Dean Field in GLIAC women's soccer today. The Huskies wrapped up their regular season with a 10-3-2 overall record and 8-2-2 GLIAC mark.

Northwood scored 15:24 into the contest as Jessica Flores took a pass over top of the defense and beat Jenna Phelps from 15 yards out.

Shots in the first half were 4-all.

It was all Tech in the second half. The Huskies held an 11-0 lead in shots including a 7-0 advantage in shots on goal.

Two Tech goals were called back in the second half. Jacqueline Mielke scored on a penalty kick, but the referee said there was another Tech player in the box at the time of the kick. The retry by Mielke was saved by the Northwood goalkeeper Samantha Cook.

Later in the half, Mielke played a ball from near the end line into the box where Lexi Herrewig put it in the back of the goal. The score was waved off for offsides.

Despite several more balls on target, Tech could not get the equalizer.

"We couldn't finish opportunities, and it came back to bite us," said Tech coach Michelle Jacob. "We didn't play very well in the first half, but I thought we played a good half in the second. We just didn't get one to go in for us."

Michigan Tech will host a GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinal game at Sherman Field on Tuesday. Walsh will come to Sherman Field for a 2 p.m. start. The Library Restaurant and Brew Pub will host a free pregame tailgate beginning at 12:30 in the VIP Pavilion.
