Boelter and Van Rooy Named Daktronics All-Midwest Region

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Seniors Kaitlyn Boelter and Lindsey Van Rooy, of the Michigan Tech soccer team, were named to the Daktronics Inc., Midwest Region First Team on Monday (Nov. 25). The region's sports information directors voted on the selections.

"This is great recognition for Kaitlyn and Lindsey," Tech soccer coach Michelle Jacob said. "Both are very deserving of this honor as they have been the backbone of our team throughout the last four years."

Boelter was the top defender for the Huskies, a team that was second in goals against average (.80) in GLIAC games and had six shutouts on the season. The native of Keshena, Wis., started all 65 games of her career and was a member of Tech's first recruiting class. Boelter was a two-time GLIAC Second Team selection and was a member of the 2012 GLIAC All-Tournament Team. She was a 2012 NSCAA All-Midwest Region Third Team selection.

Van Rooy, a native of Kaukauna, Wis., was second on Tech in goals (7) and points (18). She scored four game-winning goals this season, including a goal in the final second of a GLIAC Quarterfinal victory over Saginaw Valley State that appeared on ESPN Sportscenter's Top 10 Plays. Van Rooy started all 74 games in her career and finished with nine career game-winning goals as a member of Tech's first recruiting class. She was twice named to the GLIAC All-Tournament Team, GLIAC Second Team in 2012, GLIAC Honorable Mention in 2013 and NSCAA All-Midwest Region Third Team in 2012.

Tech finished 14-6-1 overall in 2013 and second in the GLIAC at 9-2-1. The Huskies also earned their first NCAA Tournament bid, earning the No. 6 seed in the Midwest Region.

All 13 first-team All-Region selections will now be placed on the national ballot for All-America Consideration. The All-America teams are scheduled to be released on December 4.
