Boelter Named to GLIAC Second Team; Van Rooy Honorable Mention

BAY CITY, Mich. – Senior defender Kaitlyn Boelter, of the Michigan Tech soccer team, was named to the GLIAC Second Team on Friday (Nov. 8) between the two GLIAC semifinal games at Grand Valley State. Senior midfielder Lindsey Van Rooy was an honorable mention selection after the Huskies finished 12-4-1 overall in the regular season and second in the GLIAC at 9-2-1.

Boelter, a native of Keshena, Wis., started 14 games for the Huskies in 2013 and was a second team selection in 2012.

"Kaitlyn has been the heartbeat of our defense throughout her four-year career at Tech," head soccer coach Michelle Jacob said. "Her speed and determination to not be beat has made all the difference in building the foundation of our program. Her courage and humanity have made her a friend to all on this team.

"She joins Lindsey in being the only player that has been recognized twice by the GLIAC in our first four years. The example she set and the service she has given to our program will never be forgotten."

Van Rooy has seven goals and four assists on the season, starting all 19 games. The native of Kaukauna, Wis., was also a second team selection in 2012 and has scored all three Tech goals in the two playoff games this season.

"Lindsey has been the linchpin of this team for the last four years," said Jacob. "She is the archetypal attacking center midfielder, scoring herself when you least expect it, setting up her teammates to score goals when the opponent is focused on her, and in between making beautiful possession passes. She does the grunt work that all great center midfielders do to hold their team together.

"A member of our forever-honored first recruiting class that has built this program, we are grateful for her service and thankful that the last two years she has been honored by the GLIAC with all-conference recognition."

The Huskies defeated Ashland in the first GLIAC semifinal on Friday and will now meet Grand Valley State on Sunday (Nov. 10) in the GLIAC Championship. The game begins at 1 p.m. and can be viewed at GVSULakers.com.
