Soccer Inks Three for 2014 Season

Three high school seniors have signed National Letters of Intent to play soccer at Michigan Tech under fourth-year head coach Michelle Jacob. Taylor Archibald and Sarah Boyd, both of Green Bay, Wis., and Olivia Smith of Columbus Ind., have committed to play for the Huskies.

In its first NCAA Tournament game, sixth seeded Michigan Tech fell 4-0 to the No. 3 seed UW-Parkside on Friday (Nov. 15) evening. Tech’s season ends at 14-6-1 after the Rangers scored a pair of goals in each half.

For the first time in its four-year history, the Michigan Tech soccer team earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies are the No. 6 seed in the Midwest Region and will travel to Quincy, Ill. to play No. 3 seeded UW-Parkside on Friday (Nov. 15).

In its first GLIAC Championship game, the Michigan Tech soccer team fell 2-0 to the nation’s top-ranked team, Grand Valley State, on Sunday (Nov. 10) afternoon. After a scoreless first half, the Lakers buried goals in the 67th and 81st minutes.

Senior defender Kaitlyn Boelter, of the Michigan Tech soccer team, was named to the GLIAC Second Team on Friday (Nov. 8). Senior midfielder Lindsey Van Rooy was an honorable mention selection after the Huskies finished 13-4-1 overall in the regular season and second in the GLIAC at 9-2-1.

The Michigan Tech soccer team advanced to its first GLIAC Championship Game with a 2-1 win over Ashland on Friday (Nov. 8) afternoon from the GVSU Soccer Field. Lindsey Van Rooy scored two goals in a span of 34 seconds in the first half. The Huskies held off the Eagles late to improve to 14-4-1 on the season.
