HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech women's basketball team wraps up its first meetings against GLIAC foes with a matchup against Northern Michigan at the Berry Events Center on Saturday at 1 p.m.

FoxUP will be on the air for both games with Dave Ellis on television play-by-play.

About the Wildcats

Northern Michigan holds a record of 12-2 overall and 6-2 within the league, currently residing second in the GLIAC standings. The Wildcats are 4-2 in the New Year, most recently pulling off a weekend sweep over Purdue Northwest (76-62) on Thursday and Parkside (83-76) on Saturday.

NMU sees two players with over 30 3-pointers made this season, with Jacy Weisbrod (43) leading the team and Sarah Newcomer (33). The duo combined for over four 3-pointers made per game, while Makaylee Kuhn leads the team with 17.2 points in a team-high 29.8 minutes per outing. Kuhn has amassed six double-doubles this season with a season-high 30 points and 11 rebounds in the win over Wayne State on Dec. 7.

The Wildcats are very disciplined with just 11.9 turnovers per game, which ranks fourth nationally. NMU also posts almost 40 rebounds a game with over 11 on the offensive glass, ranking second in the league. 

About the Huskies

Michigan Tech heads into Saturday's rivalry matchup with an overall record of 8-8 and a GLIAC ledger of 4-4. The Huskies are 3-3 in 2024, with a most recent split falling to Parkside on Thursday and ending the week on a high note with a 63-51 win over Purdue Northwest Saturday.

In Saturday's win, Alyssa Wypych scored a team-leading 17 points, her highest-scoring outing since dropping a career-high 20 points against St. Cloud State on Nov. 26. The Rockford, Michigan, native went 4-for-9 from the field while shooting 50 percent from deep (3-for-6) and 6-for-7 from the charity stripe. 

Since the New Year, Katelyn Meister has been the Huskies leading scorer, averaging 12 points per game on 44 percent from the field while posting 6.2 rebounds. Isabella Lenz leads the offense for the season with 12.2 points per outing while holding a free-throw percentage of 89.1 percent, which ranks 17th in the country. The Prescott, Wisconsin, native also leads the Black & Gold with 34.2 minutes an outing.

As a team, the Huskies boast the fifth-best free throw percentage in the country (79 percent), ranking fifth nationally.

One Last Thing

Michigan Tech is 7-2 this season when out rebounding the opposition. The Wildcats average nearly 40 rebounds per outing, while the Huskies post over 34 rebounds, showing the rebound battle might dictate the outcome of the game.
