HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech women's basketball team concludes the 2023 calendar year on the road, facing Winona State on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
About the Warriors
Winona State enters the week with an overall record of 3-8 and an NSIC ledger of 3-4. The Warriors have won three of their last five, although WSU dropped both contests last week against Minnesota State (66-48) on Thursday before concluding the weekend with a loss to Minnesota Duluth (65-37) on Saturday.
Olivia Gamoke leads the Warriors offensively with 9.8 points per outing and 108 points on the season. Alex Dornfeld averages a team-leading 6.3 rebounds per game for WSU.
The Warriors are averaging 56.7 points per outing with a scoring margin of -6.5.
Winona State was tabbed to finish 12th in the NSIC Preseason Coaches Poll. Ana Wurtz is in her second season at the helm of the Warriors.
About the Huskies
Michigan Tech heads into the final game of the year with an overall record of 5-4 and a 1-1 GLIAC standing. Most recently, the Huskies opened GLIAC play with a 56-51 win over Saginaw Valley (Dec. 7) before being held to a season low in points in the 61-42 loss to Wayne State (Dec. 9).
Sara Dax produced a season-high 16 points, shooting 6-of-10 from the field while adding six rebounds in the loss against the Warriors.
The Black & Gold average 66.3 points per outing yet struggled to score in both games to open conference play. Although they remain one of the top shooting teams–shooting 46 percent from the field, which ranks 14th nationally and second in the league. The Huskies also showcase the 14th-best 3-point percentage, shooting 37.8 from beyond the arc–the feat also ranks first in the GLIAC.
Isabella Lenz leads the Huskies with 13.1 points and four assists per game, while Katelyn Meister averages a team-leading 5.4 rebounds per outing.
One Last Thing
Sophomore forward/center Maja Kozlowska has started the last two games for the Huskies, with her start against Saginaw Valley being the first of her career.
