HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech women's basketball team saw six players in double-figure scoring to sweep the season-opening week with an 83-64 win over Lewis on Saturday night in the SDC Gymnasium.

"I was really proud of the way our team just came out and competed every possession," head coach Sam Clayton said. "I was really happy to see the urgency that we talk about quite often. Tessa and Emma crushed it tonight–this is the most confident I've seen them play and they were both instrumental in this win."

With the win, the Huskies open the season 2-0, while Lewis moves to 0-2 in the first weekend of action.

Michigan Tech shot a staggering 51.7 percent from the field for the game, averaging over 20 points per quarter. Additionally, the Huskies had 26 points off the bench, with Emma Anderson and Tessa Leece setting career-highs. Anderson finished with 12 points and 2-for-2 from long range, while Leece had 10 points on 4-for-8 from the field.

The two teams battled through the first quarter. Still, by halftime, the Huskies excellent shooting night had already begun, seeing the score 41-30 after two quarters with the Black & Gold connecting on seven triples and being a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe.

Michigan Tech opened up its biggest lead of the game in the third quarter, outscoring the Flyers 22-12 in the third frame. The Huskies veterans had much to do with the scoring barrage as Sara Dax, Katelyn Meister and Alex Rondorf combined for 11 points during that time to push the lead to 21 points.

However, the Flyers would not go away quietly, producing their best quarter of basketball of the evening in the final frame, shooting 53.8 percent from the field and notching 22 points to the Huskies 20. Lewis' Grace Hilber accounted for 22 of the Flyers' 64 points despite only scoring two points in the final quarter.

In an offensively balanced night, the Huskies were led by Rondorf and Wypych with 14 points apiece. Half of Wypych's points came in the first quarter alone. In addition to the aforementioned Anderson and Leece, Isabella Lenz and Meister also scored in double-figures with 10 and 12 points, respectively.

The Huskies won the rebound battle for the second-consecutive night by a margin of 39-28, with veterans Rondorf and Meister leading the team with seven apiece.
