Huskies fly past Golden Eagles 82-62

CROOKSTON, Minn. – Michigan Tech used a 14-0 third quarter run to pull away from Minnesota Crookston 82-62 Saturday afternoon at Lysaker Gymnasium. The Huskies avenged a Thursday night loss and improved to 4-1 in non-conference play. The Golden Eagles fell to 0-4.

"Today was a great bounce-back win," said head coach Sam Clayton. "Everyone contributed and came in ready to execute. Kate (Meister) had a great game and was very efficient with her minutes."

Katelyn Meister led the Huskies with 15 points (6-10), six rebounds, and one steal. Ellie Mackay shot 50-percent and totaled 13 points. Alex Rondorf grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds and four steals while adding eight points.

Minnesota Crookston scored the first six points of the afternoon, but Tech was effective in the paint and assembled a 21-17 lead after the opening 10 minutes. Tessa Leece provided a spark off the bench nearing the end of the second quarter as the Huskies took a 39-30 advantage into the locker room.

Eleven players posted three or more points as the Huskies spread the floor in the second half. Outscoring Minnesota Crookston 26-11 in the third frame, Tech shot 58-percent from the field and ran the score to a 24-point margin.

Cruising into the fourth quarter, Emma Anderson provided nine points on four baskets off the bench and freshman Soraya Timms showed off her athleticism in the lane.

The Huskies shot 48-percent overall (34-71), including 28-percent (7-25) from beyond the arc. Tech also took care of the basketball with nine turnovers, eight steals, and 14 assists.

Emma Miller led the Golden Eagles in four categories, including points (15), rebounds (eight), assists (four), and steals (two). UMC finished 35-percent from the field (23-65) and 8-for-29 from 3-point range. Minnesota Crookston also committed 10 turnovers and passed 12 assists.

Michigan Tech (4-1) returns home next week to play two more Northern Sun Conference opponents, beginning with St. Cloud State Friday, November 25 at 3 p.m. Tech hosts Minnesota Duluth at SDC Gymnasium on Saturday, November 26 at 2 p.m.
