Huskies Climb to 5th in Latest NCAA Division II Regional Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Michigan Tech women's basketball team moved up one spot to No. 5 in the latest NCAA Division II Midwest Region Poll, announced Wednesday by the national office. The Huskies were ranked 6th in the poll the previous two weeks and continue to be one of five teams to represent the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in this week's edition of the rankings.

The Huskies kicked off the GLIAC Tournament with an 82-66 victory Tuesday night in the SDC against Ohio Dominican. Tech now boasts an overall record of 20-7 and completed the regular season with a 15-6 mark against GLIAC opponents. The Huskies have now won three straight games dating back to a 74-64 win at Ferris State on February 18th. Tech closed the regular season slate with an impressive 72-37 win over rival Northern Michigan February 23rd.

Michigan Tech will battle top-ranked Ashland University in the GLIAC Final Four on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. The Huskies are the No. 4 seed in the tournament field and will be joined at the final four in Ashland, Ohio by second seed Saginaw Valley State and third seed Grand Valley State. Saginaw Valley State and Grand Valley State will play in the other semifinal game on Saturday at 4 p.m. with the winners of both semifinal contests meeting on Sunday afternoon in the GLIAC Championship game.

The breakdown for GLIAC Teams in the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Rankings this week include Ashland at No. 1 followed by Saginaw Valley State at No. 3. Michigan Tech is No. 5, Grand Valley State checks in at No. 8, and Ohio Dominican is No. 10.
