Women's Hoops Announces Team Awards

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech women's basketball coach Kim Cameron today announced the program's awards for the 2015-16 season. Danielle Blake was named the team's most valuable player, while Lindsay Winter took home most improved player honors. Senior guard Mackenzie Perttu was picked as the Harold Meese Sportsmanship Award recipient, and senior Kerry Gardner earned the scholastic achievement award.

Blake was named to the All-GLIAC First Team and GLIAC All-Defensive Team after leading the Huskies in scoring (14.2 points/game), rebounds (8.3 per game), blocks (55) and steals (51). A two-time GLIAC Player of the Week, the Midland, Michigan, native notched six 20-point games and owns the Tech career record for blocks with 197.

Winter, a sophomore guard, started 23 games this year and averaged more than 29 minutes per game after playing in 4.6 per night as a rookie in 2014-15. The Clare, Michigan, native scored 222 points this winter while shooting 46.3 percent from the field.

Perttu was a leader on and off the court for the Huskies during her senior campaign. She ranked fifth on the team in points (182) and was a team-leading 88.6 percent from the line while appearing in 23 contests.

Gardner captured her second scholastic achievement award for having the team's highest cumulative GPA – a 4.0 in exercise science. The Middleton, Wisconsin, product started 22 games and averaged the second-most minutes among all Tech players with 29.4 per outing.

Michigan Tech clinched a share of the GLIAC North title in 2015-16 – the fourth regular-season championship in Cameron's six campaigns – and qualified for the league tournament.
