HOUGHTON, Mich. — Morgan Anderson tied a school record with eight 3-pointers as part of a career-high 26 points to lift Michigan Tech to a 80-55 victory over Malone in both teams' GLIAC opener tonight.

Playing without starters Kelli Guy and Brenna Heise (both injured), Anderson and the Huskies shot 54 percent from the field and held the visitors to 34 percent to improve to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in league action.

Tech's Kylie Moxley set the tone early with 14 first-half points on 5-of-7 shooting.

MU's Rachel Goddard had 12 points with 3:23 remaining in 2nd quarter. The Huskies switched Danielle Blake onto her for the balance of the game and she added just four more points.

Tech held a 41-34 advantage at the break, then really asserted itself in the third quarter to jump ahead 61-46.

Anderson hit her seventh and eighth 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and had a chance to break the record with open look from left wing with 3:30 remaining that rimmed out.

Coach Kim Cameron cleared her bench in the final minutes, and the Huskies expanded their margin to a game-high 25 points for the final buzzer.

"We had a tough week this week, and we really came together" said Cameron. "Kylie was our vocal leader and really got us going. Dani played great defense all night. And Morgan had a pretty silent 26 points.

"Our bench did a phenomenal job today, and I'm really pleased with how we finished."

Anderson was 9-of-15 from the floor including 8-of-12 from long range. She added four rebounds and four assists.

Moxley was the only other Husky in double figures with 18. Blake scored nine points with 11 rebounds, five blocks and four assists.

Lindsay Winter put up career highs of nine points and six rebounds in her first career start.

Michigan Tech will play at home again on Saturday (Dec. 5) with a 1 p.m. tipoff vs. Walsh.

Note: Anderson tied Katie Zimmerman's 3-pointers record. Zimmerman hit 8-of-13 at Ferris State on Jan. 30, 2010.
